Am I the only one who read the last 4 posts as attempts to cancel Ancestry subscriptions through GenSuck?

cancel subs. | ||

Hmmm.. Think that might be one reason some people have problems getting cancelled on Ancestry or whatever?. They are trying to cancel on this website instead of where they should be cancelling? If it does work to cancel their subs here, wonder if it would work for a couple of magazine subs. that I have been thinking about not renewing.

Maybe I can cancel some unsavory cousins here....
|
Um Toasted One,
Might the explosion of Ancestry cancellations on GenSuck be a more obvious example of what we have suspected for some time? |

More likely a few idiots playing around.

look at the string under "cancelation"- Steve has apparently found doing a google search under "canceling ancestry" bring them to this site (he notes the mispelling of cancelation). There will be a lot of unhappy people next month when they get their credit card bills.

I read them :rolleyes | ||

Am refraining from my usual sarcasm. Anything I would say would be superfluous.

another twist | ||
|
PT - I just did the google search myself, just to see what actually comes up. And it is Meghans post at the begining of this thread that you are brought to. Her post spells out in detail what you have to do to cancel. Yet, for some unknown reason, they are posting here to try to unsubscribe. You just know that they all will be back here next month when they get their credit card bill saying they "emailed" MFI to cancel, thinking by posting here it consistutes an email. So I guess in the next month or so, we will get part 2 of the saga.

Re: another twist | ||

Perhaps some will come back to this board to complain, but I suspect that next month most of those people will call Ancestry on the phone, rather than make a second attempt via message board.

What if? | ||

Wouldn't it be great if an Ancestry.com representative monitored these boards and sent a message to those who'd mis-posted their cancellation requests here to advise them of the proper procedure for cancellation?
Or, better yet, what if an Ancestry.com rep monitored these boards and passed on the contact info (if available) of people who've mis-posted their cancellation requests to the team at Ancestry.com that handles cancellation requests and that team contacted these people to find out why they are cancelling, try to prevent them from cancelling, or process their cancellation request. Just a thought. ->Paul B. |

Ancestry monitoring board?
|
Seems to me that I remember once speaking at a conference with an Ancestry employee--maybe 4 or 5 years ago when the site was relatively new and the staff was small. He said he monitored lists, sites, etc. for complaints, partly on his own time, and reported them to management. I wonder whatever happened to him. Also, I have noticed that at least one current Ancestry staffer seems to watch the APG mailing list.

Re: cancelation | ||

Cancel the my membeship. I want my money back now. I'm not kidding. Okay. I'm serious. I called these people Monday the 16th. Was on hold for 30 minutes. They kept on playing message for me to cancel by emailing cancel@ancestry.com. I did this and hung up the phone. My free trial period was to end that Friday so I was happy to be over and done with it. On Monday the 23rd, I visit the website to find I am still member. I call up to find out that they were 7 days behind with emails. I was told I was already charged but could still get a refund. Fine with me if I could get my money back. Well, I just now called them (they answered the phone even though its a Saturday evening...?) and guess what, still a member. ONly this time, I was able to get a confirmation number for my cancellation. Again, I was told I could get a refund but I have to wait for them to catch up with the emails before I could get my money back. I ask the representative when this will be. Her response: "I have no idea." Fine.... I think I have really lost it. Why? Beacuse just this week I found a surprise $70.00 charge on my account from videoprofessor.com... I'm not even going to get into that one (it involes a website known as freegiftplanet.com). As for Ancestry.com, I was charged $100.00. I have a gut feeling that I wont be getting a refund anytime soon. I'll just call everyday next week to make sure they don't try to pull some fancy nonsense on me again. Either I get my money back from them or I will complain to my CC company. I took the correct course of action to cancel my account according to what I heard from them on the phone only to be charged anyway because they don't know how to keep up with the cancellation request. |

Cancelled | ||
|
Not unlike many other people I suppose I did not read the fine print about cancelling. I sent in an email to try and cancel finding out later I could not do that. After a few days of procrastinating I checked my email and low and behold Ancestry.com sent me an email stating that "due to the high volume of calls they have cancelled my account over email". A pleasent surpirse after reading these posts. Good luck to all trying to cancel. Use email.
