Yes, auto renewal is part of the agreement; mandatory lifetime membership is not. This agreement supposedly also provides a mechanism for cancellation, but apparently Ancestry has figured out that they can dodge that by simply leaving callers on hold indefinitely until the billing period has lapsed.
The legal problem is proving that Ancestry is doing this systematically, rather than it just being an unfortunate circumstance affecting a few subscribers. To rephrase what I said in my earlier post, an avalanche of well documented complaints to BBB would indicate a pattern of abuse they will have to answer to; a few complaints on the Gensuck boards will not be enough to motivate change.
