Thank you for your cancellation request. Because you didn't state the specific service involved, we will be cancelling your telephone, cable, gas, lights, water, life insurance and pre-nuptial agreement. Thank you for contacting Taco Bell ... please come again.

I won't use Ancestry | ||

I use Genealogy.com. I won't say it's perfect, but I'm happy with it. Heritagequest is good too.

I CANCELLED | ||
|
I JUST CALLED AND CANCELLED AFTER ONLY USING IT FOR 2 DAYS AND TALKED TO A LADY AND IN LESS THAN 5 MINUTES SHE GAVE ME MY CANCELLATION CONFIRMATION NUMBER, AND SAID IT WOULD BE EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY. IS THIS ALL I SHOULD DO?

Matt- There are two others things, 1) turn the cap lock off, and 2) make sure you check your credit card statement for the next few months. You probably will be fine though.

Ancestry.com Scam's by not processing canceled account
|
If you ever had an Ancestry.com account and thought you canceled BEWARE... Making a phone call is not allways what you think... In 2003 I called when I saw a billing for an annual subscription for 119.90 When I spoke to CS she offered me a deal like my first year for only 99.00 I did not take it I wanted the account canceled... Now it is my own fault for not following up but I still had faith in companies to do what they say they are going to do. I never did get my credit... the following year I never thought of it because it was "canceled" and just so happen I had a huge charge on that account so I missed the 119.90... Well by god I saw it this year and those people are real loosers... They have lost a customer forever and I will pass the word about the BS. The other thing is I will force them to review the log in of my account they will see zero activity since I so called canceled the account.

MFI* Ancestry | ||
|
I took out a free trial subscription to Ancestry.co.uk. When they automatically debited my credit card for a year's subscription, I was confused as the entry on my bank statement listed MFI* Ancestry as the debitors. I eventually realised that the culprits must be Ancestry.co.uk in their American disguise. I e.mailed Ancestry.co.uk to complain. By return, I was given the opportunity to make my case clear. When I did so, I received an e.mail by return, telling me that ,my free trial had been cancelled, and that a credit was being processed for the annual subscription. In view of the number of complaints about this organisation currently posted, I felt it was only fair to let the world know that Ancestry.co. uk. at least had responded promptly and rectified the situation. I cannot of course assume that their American counteroart would do the same, but I see no reason why they shouldn't.

Re: MFI* Ancestry | ||

MFI has many diguises. They own MyFamily.com, Ancestry.com, Genealogy.com, RootsWeb.com, Ancestry.ca and Ancestry.co.uk. However, each entity seems to be somewhat independent of the other ones. There's no guarantee that an Ancestry.com subscription can be cancelled as easily as an Ancestry.co.uk subscription.

Re: MFI* Ancestry | ||

I wouldn't exactly call them disguises. MFI is the parent company of Ancestry and gen.com. etc. It is not unusual at all for there to be seveal subsidary companies owned by another larger company. You might be surprised to find the number of stores and services you use that are only subsidaries of another company

Re: cancelling free trial

They just sell you information they get for free any way and stuff that will not help you at all so why pay for it? Just another genealogy scam, people are gullable trying to get thousands of dollars of information and saving years of true research for a "QUICK FIX"
